"What people want more than anything else is to know that they're appreciated… that's the best gift of all." - Oprah Winfrey.
One of the primary desires of humans is to be seen for who we are and what we can achieve. What would happen to an artist or an excellent piece of art if no one appreciates it?! When we are seen the way we are through the eyes of others, we feel complete. By appreciating the beauty in others, we also change ourselves by connecting to shared values or aspirations. Voltaire said, "Appreciation is a wonderful thing: It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well."
Appreciation also motivates the appreciated to be even better — an O.C. Tanner Institute study shows that 88% of people who receive recognition feel inspired to do great work. This holiday season, when you pass on a gift, say few kind words of appreciation. What has another person done which has touched your heart? What values does the person inspire in you?
At Meaning Quotient, this season we have launched a social experiment of passing on "Goodness" instead of/along with goodies. Our 'goodness' bags, e.g., for small gifts, books, or wine bottles, contains a card that calls to appreci8 the receiver. Each card can be passed many times, much like our reusable and low-energy recyclable jute bags.
You can buy these bags with an appreciation card at FairCustomer shop in Zurich (Schiffbaustrasse 9a, 8005 Zürich) or online.
We look forward to seeing you in 2021 with exciting learning workshops and idea-salons. Keep the quest of meaning kindled!
