ARTIST:

Sitarist and Composer Hindol Deb was initiated into Indian Classical Music at the age of 5 by his father Sri Panchanan Sardar. He went on to learn from other eminent Gurus like Pandit Santosh Bannerji and Pandit Deepak Choudhury to finally find his own Individuality and sound. He finished his masters in jazz Improvisation from the “Hochschule für Musik” in Cologne.

Indian classical is the only genre using all the microtones in the form of glides (known as “Meends”), and Hindol utilizes this unique potentiality to the full. He weaves beautiful melodic soundscapes through different Ragas (akin to Indian classical scales) and Rhythms. With a high technical finesse and knowledge of different ragas and their psycho-acoustic effects, he binds them together to give listeners a unique musical experience. Many describe his sound journeys as a transcendental experience that facilitates deep healing and transformation.

Hindol has been exploring the infinite combinations in the crossover of Indian music with various other genres like Contemporary Western Classical, Jazz, Flamenco, Nordic folk. He released his 1st jazz-crossover album, Essence of Duality, in 2021.

Hindol was invited to different residency programs like the Academy of Carnegie Hall, Recollets, and Goethe Institut (while living in India). Has worked with some artists and musicians, including Marina Abramovic, Markus Stockhausen, Sebastian Gramss, Mattiasa, and Daksha Mashruwala, among others, and toured across India, Europe, the US, Japan.

More can be learned about Hindol’s work on his website: www.hindoldeb.com
