Workforce Capability Strategy

- Situation/ Objectives -

As AI consulting matures from a technical discipline into a client-facing, strategic practice, firms with deep engineering roots face a distinct challenge: how to build consulting capability without losing the technical credibility that sets them apart.

VISIUM, an AI consulting company, wanted to transform its largely engineering and technical workforce into strategic consultants capable of leading client-facing engagements — without diluting the technical depth that is core to their value proposition.

  • Transform into a consulting-capable organisation while preserving deep technical expertise

  • Develop a 3–5 year capability building strateg designed to evolve as the business does

  • Build well-rounded consultants — strategic, relational, and values-driven, not just technically excellent

- Approach -

We worked with the VISIUM team using a three-step capability methodology:

  • Identify the future capabilities required for client-facing strategic consulting, and assess the gap against the organisation's current technical-first profile

  • Bridge the gap through a combination of mandatory core training and demand-based, role-specific development depending upon career paths — ensuring the approach scaled across the organisation without a one-size-fits-all program

  • Align internal processes and systems — e.g. hiring, performance frameworks, career pathways — to reinforce and sustain the new capabilities beyond the training itself

Workforce Capability Strategy | MQ Learning

- Results/ Impact -

The new workforce capability model was successfully implemented in the organization and ran for three years, equipping technical experts with the strategic and relational skills needed for client-facing consulting roles.

In the time since, VISIUM has emerged as a leading Swiss enterprise AI consulting company, trusted by major corporations and recognised for a consistently high level of client satisfaction. The shift was reflected internally too — employee satisfaction on Glassdoor rose from 4.2 to 4.5, suggesting the new capability model strengthened not just client relationships but the internal culture supporting them.
